A Journey Of Service

For 30 years I taught students in our community as a high school teacher in East Side Union High School District. I taught at Foothill High School, Independence High School, and Oak Grove High School throughout my career. My focus has always been ensuring that students had what they need to engage in learning.

 

As a teacher, I saw the impact of funding in classrooms and worked to make a difference. To advocate for students and educators, I served as a Union Representative for the East Side Teachers Association. Here I served as Benefits Committee Chair and was on the Financing Public Education Committee. 

 

Eventually, I came to serve on the State Legislation Committee for the California Teachers Association State Council. Attending several summer institute trainings on school finance, budget and bargaining essentials I learned more about creating better conditions for our students and staff. I also lobbied in Sacramento advocating for fair laws for charter schools, while pushing for increased school funding for public schools.

    
I value cultural diversity, equity, equality and inclusion. I believe in the need for strong academic and socio-emotional support for students so they can achieve their full potential.  My goal as a Board member would be to listen to all stakeholders in the community and create needed  change.

I earned my Bachelor's from UC Santa Cruz, a teaching credential from SJSU, and a Master’s in  Teacher Leadership from National University.
